Ingredients

  • Wheat Vermicelli 1 cup
  • Chopped green chillies – 2-3
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad dhal – 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 5-6 leaves
  • Grated coconut –  2 tbsp
  • Sugar –  2tsp
  • Oil or ghee – a few drops
  • Salt to taste

How to prepare Sweet Wheat Vermicelli Usli

  • Fill a large saucepan with water and boil. Once the water is boiling, add salt as needed.
  • Add the vermicelli and stir at the beginning to help it cook evenly to avoid clumping. Cook vermicelli till it is firm and tender.
  • Add a cup or two of cold water to the saucepan as soon as the vermicelli is fully cooked. This will cool the vermicelli and prevent it from continuing to cook. Don’t rinse the vermicelli. Use a colander to drain the excess water, and the vermicelli is ready to serve.
  • In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add Urad dhal, and wait till they turn golden brown. Then add green chillies and curry leaves.
  • To this add cooked vermicelli. Mix well and add sugar and salt as per your taste.
  • Stir well, finally add grated coconut. Remove from heat. Serve hot.
  • It`s a healthy breakfast for children or makes a perfect evening snack.
